OZARK — Bad news for music festival lovers. Organizers announced Tuesday that Phases of the Moon Music Festival on Mulberry Mountain was canceled because of “unforeseen obstacles.”
Pipeline Productions, the event promotion company behind the Wakarusa and Thunder on the Mountain festivals, announced on Tuesday the cancellation on their website and social media outlets along with a brief, yet vague, explanation for the cancellation.
“Unfortunately, due to a significant number of unforeseen obstacles, including the continued closure of the only road leading into the festival site, we were left with no choice but to cancel the event,” organizers said in the statement.
For those who had already purchased tickets to the event, the statement said that a separate notice will be sent to ticket holders concerning refunds, according to the official statement.
Prior to being cancelled, Phases of the Moon was to be held the weekend of Oct. 16 – 19 on Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Ark. Some of the main headliners were STS9 performing their unique acoustic show Axe the Cables, The Disco Biscuits, moe., Warren Haynes & The Ashes & Dust Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Lunar Landing Conspiracy and Beats Antique among many others.
The recent cancellation follows a pattern from Pipeline when Thunder on the Mountain was cancelled just 10 days before the festival began. Lance Carpenter, a country musician, saw an opportunity to fill the gap when he got the news and managed to put together a substitute festival; Music on the Mulberry.
As for Phases of the Moon, fear not, the production company behind Hillberry, Deadhead Productions, are already underway planning an impromptu music festival the same October weekend.
“Hillbery 2 – The Harvest Moon Festival,” as it’s being called after the Hillberry Bluegrass Festival in August, was announced within a few hours of the cancellation notice from Pipeline. Few details are available about the festival, and a call to Deadhead Productions Tuesday was not returned.
Hillberry 2 will be located at “The Farm” outside Eureka Springs in the Ozark Mountains. The venue sits on 160 acres and backs up to the Mark Twain national forest, according to the Hillberry Bluegrass Festival website.
