Cherish the Ladies Brings Celtic Christmas Sound

Celtic ChristmasStaff Report

Walton Arts Center is bringing Cherish the Ladies to Northwest Arkansas for a performance of A Celtic Christmas, Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m.

Taking their name from a traditional Irish jig, Cherish the Ladies began in 1985 as a series of concerts in New York featuring up-and-coming female musicians. The one-time concert concept quickly grew into an Irish music sensation that combines several major facets of Irish traditional culture. A distinctive blend of vocals, instrumentals, arrangements and step dancing has made the quintet the most successful and sought after Irish-American group in Celtic music.

Fronted by original member and flutist Joanie Madden, Cherish the Ladies has recorded fifteen albums, including a Grammy-nominated album collaboration with the Boston Pops Orchestra. The Washington Post, New York Times, Village Voice and numerous other nationally syndicated newspapers chose their quintessential Christmas album “On Christmas Night” as one of the top Christmas albums of the year. In A Celtic Christmas, Cherish the Ladies will put their unique mark on such classic holiday carols as “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Silent Night,” rounded out with a full band and traditional Irish step dancers.
