The City of Fayetteville will be hosting a community input meeting to gather public input on the proposed Frisco Trail extension to Walker Park. This meeting will be held on June 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 945 S. College Ave. The public is invited to drop in any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to see the conceptual trail plans, examples of possible street crossing methods, provide input and to visit with representatives from the City and the City’s design consultant.
This important trail extension will provide safe pedestrian and bicycle connections to the numerous residents and businesses around Walker Park, as well as the Tsa La Gi (Cherokee) trail to be constructed to the west just south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Creating safe trail crossings of the busy state highways is one of the most important design challenges of the project, so we invite you to attend a community input meeting to view and comment on the conceptual trail alignment and options for crossing the highways.
Because the trail will be crossing state highways, the design will require approval from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. Trail design work is planned to be completed by the end of 2012, allowing construction to begin as early as 2013. The City of Fayetteville has hired Garver, LLC, a multi-discipline engineering firm, as the lead design consultant for the Frisco Trail extension.
