The 2012 Northwest Arkansas Music Awards will be Sunday April 22 at George’s Majestic Lounge. This year’s awards have had a record-breaking number of votes, as local music fans are using social networking more than ever to help support and promote their favorite local artists. Facebook exploded with bands encouraging fans to vote and fans quickly spreading the word.
The Awards Ceremony April 22 is open to the public, and is heralded as the largest gathering of musicians in NWA of the year. With special performances by Afrique Aya, Shannon Wurst, The Brothers Shreve, Nathan A, and Oreo Blue. Special recognition will include Hall-of-Fame induction for Benjamin Del Shreve, Fayetteville Funk Ensemble, Leah and the Mojo Doctors, and Deadbird. Oreo Blue will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement award for celebrating 20 years as a band, and the Ozark Blues Society will receive a special recognition award for their contribution to the local music culture. The evening will end with Oreo Blue hosting a one-of-a-kind all-star jam featuring NAMA nominees.
Tickets are $10 and proceeds go to the Fayetteville Free Health Clinic. Doors open at 7 p.m., awards start at 8 p.m.
