As of July 27, over-the-counter medicines such as Advil Cold & Sinus that contain pseudoephedrine or ephedrine are now under further restrictions in Arkansas. Because the ingredients can be abused to make methamphetamine, those allergy and cold medicines can now only be purchased at Walmart with a valid prescription. Walgreens and Harps will only sell to customers who have previously filled a prescription at their pharmacy. Harps also requires a blood pressure check.

Crystal Bridges received a $20 million gift from Walmart, which will set up free admission for life to the world-class American art museum in Bentonville. The gift will encourage visitors to dispense more revenue into the local economy, as well as the museum’s dining facility and gift store. Additionally, locals will be encouraged to revisit the museum frequently without the cost of admission.
Arkansas Tax-Free Weekend
Aug. 6-7 will be tax-free shopping days on school supplies, school art supplies, instructional materials, accessories less than $50 and clothing less than $100. Many local bookstores have anticipated the weekend by stocking up on supplies and textbooks. Nearby Missouri includes tax exemption on computer purchases under $3,500.
The Business Of Doing Business
There are new license requirements for small businesses and home improvement contractors in Fayetteville and the rest of Arkansas. All operations in Fayetteville must acquire a business license by Oct. 31 for a $35 standard fee or $22 for home-based businesses. More information is available at accessfayetteville.org or 443-3443. There are discounts to the fee for completing the business license application online.
An Arkansas contractor’s license will now be required for all remodeling or handyman jobs valued at more than $2,000. More information is available at aclb.arkansas.gov/pages/default.aspx.
Recycling Springdale
The Springdale recycling drop-off is now open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Located at 1809 Lowell Road, the facility accepts newsprint and other paper materials, cardboard, batteries, plastics No. 1-7, tin and aluminum cans and all colors of glass. Tim’s Minus One
The Tim’s Pizza at 2730 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville closed last month. The company still has two locations at 1813 E. Mission Blvd. and 21 W. Mountain St. Rumor has it another local pizzeria is considering expanding into the College Avenue building.
Pizza On The Go
Largely influenced by the pay parking program, Geno’s Pizzeria in Fayetteville moved from 644 W. Dickson St. and is now open at 2920 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship is seeking volunteers. Golf knowledge is not required but a $45 fee is. Volunteers will receive two official tournament golf shirts, a hat or visor, a parking pass, four weekly tickets and meals on scheduled workdays. More information is available at nwachampionship.com.
Online Music
The online music genre gained another outlet through Spotify.com. Launched in Sweden, Spotify promotes having 15 million tracks available instantly and can be accessed by computer, cellphone or iPod Touch. A limited free version is available or listeners can pay $4.99 or $9.99 a month for enhanced versions. Playlists can be shared through Facebook, sharemyplaylists.com and spotiseek.com.
