Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dirk and I’m a 3ish-year-old dachshund. I was adopted from the Fayetteville Animal Shelter last August when my human, Stephanie Conway, and I connected at the Farmers Market. She was looking for a sidekick and as fate would have it, I’m a pretty chill guy. We hit it off instantly.

We shared a mutual love of food, hanging with friends on bar patios and the beautiful town we call home. In fact, one of the many qualities that makes Fayetteville so wonderful is the dog-friendly community. We were having so much fun hitting the town together that we wanted to connect with other like-minded animal lovers and Dog Friendly Fayetteville was born.

We have a great pack going on Facebook as well as a website to organize all the events, fundraisers and dog-friendly establishments. We are excited to bring even more awareness with an article in the Free Weekly! Hope to see you at one of these great events:

Gulley Park Concert

The summer is winding down and Thursday, Aug. 6, will be the last Gulley Park Concert of the season. Music by Fast Times starts at 7 p.m. and there will also be an 80’s Night Costume Contest. Food vendors available. Bring a blanket, picnic and your pup.

Pups on the Patio

Nomad’s Music Lounge, located at 1431 S. School in Fayetteville, will host Pups on the Patio Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nomads will be offering $2 Dog Smoothies and Chicken Sno-Cones, as well as their full food menu and craft beer. They will donate 10 percent of all sales to the Washington County Animal Shelter and adoptable dogs will be available.

Bark in the Ballpark

The NWA Naturals play the Corpus Christie Hooks and it’s also Bark in the Ballpark on Sunday, Aug. 16! Dogs get to attend the game FREE with a ticket purchased by their owner. Dog-related contests and prizes will be given away during the game. Sponsored by Bark ‘N Paws (www.nwanaturals.com).
