“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”

Thomas Jefferson, Letter to the Danbury Baptists, Jan. 1, 1802

I’ve got a major bone to pick with the way this country is operated. I find myself more and more disgusted as the days go by, especially during election times, and especially hearing the “thoughts” and “opinions” of men who — though incredibly flawed — I very much admire misused and appropriated to further the goals of a two-party system; half of which is basing their ENTIRE platform on faith in a country founded free from it. So it’s time we got a few things straight.

The number one issue I have is with God in government. Personally, I have no issues with religion. As Maggie Smith once brilliantly put it, “My dear, religion is like a penis. It’s a perfectly fine thing for one to have and take pride in, but when one takes it out and waves it in my face, we have a problem.” AND AMERICA WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

There’s this fictionalized, sensationalized ‘War on Christianity’ that is fast becoming the central focus for many of the GOP candidates, and I can’t find it. I can find what basically equates to a war on Islam, but all I see coming to Christianity, and specifically conservative Christianity who have actually never read past Leviticus, is that we’re forcing them to accept that they are not the foundational faith of this country. When people say “This country was founded on the principles of Christianity,” and believe me, the proverbial ‘they’ say that a lot, I want to scream at them, “That was the puritans and they were not the colonies!”

People that we hold in esteem to this day, men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin, and the whole powdered wig lot were either straight-up atheist or they kept their faith out of their government, because, as it was written in the Constitution of this great country, we were founded on the principles of freedom, including the freedom to choose which Sky Daddy you want to represent you. The ‘War on Christianity’ is much much less exciting, and they are much less inclined to call it for what it really is; The War On Bigotry.

“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”

John Adams, Oct 2 1780

Another thing that really bothers me is how polarized we are as a country. How is anything ever supposed to get done when we have basically had an everlasting split down the ideals of our country since the Civil War? I refer to that because it was in that war the divide got so bad, we literally chose sides and took up arms.

The two-party system is broken, and has been for about as long as it’s been around. Now, instead of accomplishing, well, anything, we just argue with each other. Presidents, when they are worth a dime, spend most of their last term fulfilling their campaign promises and not giving a good god damn what Congress or the House thinks. This is the way it should be. This is the United States of America, not Every-State-For-Themselves of America. While I of course believe that Congress and The House of Representatives needs to stick around, we need far less bipartisan bullshit and far more cross partisan participation.

This next bit is for the GOP alone; stop. Just stop. Please. I am literally begging every one of you to stop making us look like this to the rest of the world. It’s not Bernie Sanders’ good ideas and 40-year track record being exported to the UK and Australia, it’s Rick Perry’s Federal indictment, Donald Trumps ‘all Latin peoples are rapists,’ and Ted Cruz’s…. Ted Cruzyness.

We’re a laughing stock, and 90 percent of the reason is because of those guys, making up fictionalized wars, sensationalizing peaceful peoples; be they gay or Muslim, they’re all out to get you. So just put a rest to it. Republicans are supposed to be the fiscally responsible party, concerned more with the monetary operations than the people, and we need the monetary concern right now. Instead, our Republicans are not even Republicans anymore, they are the GOP, the far-right, crazy-spouting demographic tap-dancers who can pick up just about any tune — save for equality.

GOP, you know Lincoln was a Republican right? Isn’t that something the party is proud of? Do you know how ashamed he would be? Stop using men you obviously know nothing about to further your own hateful means.
