Hallow’s Eve is a’comin’.

Readers, it’s come to our attention that there are just so many great things to do for Halloween this year, that this week’s cover story needed to cover all of it (or at least some cool ones). The next two weeks are jam packed with events to get dressed up for.

There’s a healthy blend of all types of events for the 21 and older crowd and those with the kiddos looking for something fun for the whole family.

The problem here is, all of these events are must-see. It’s almost stressful how many cool events there are. These are just a few of them. You need to pick wisely. Or y’know, if you’re a crazed event addict, you could somehow attend each and every one of these. If that makes The Free Weekly an event enabler, then that’s something we can live with.

Halloween Parties

  • Hoodoo On the Hill: A Mystical Halloween Extravaganza

Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. @ The Rev House, 12 S. West Ave. Fayetteville.

Located at the newly established Rev House, Kody Ford of Idle Class Magazine is teaming up with Ashleigh Price and Kelsey Ferguson to create an eerie and artful party to kick off your Halloween weekend. Just $5 will get you in. Oh yeah, there’s definitely a costume contest at 10 p.m.

The party will showcase regional underground artists and their works in thematic, artistic interactive rooms throughout the house. Attendants enter through the Camp, where live ambient music will be played and a tarot card reader will be available, and enter into the house-turned art gallery with a DJ. The two bedrooms will be converted into a black and white silent film room, and the other a dream-world featuring portraits of locals by Tom Edwards.

Friday, Oct. 30 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. @ Backspace, 541 W. Meadow St. Fayetteville

You better believe the Backspace squaredance is still going strong, especially on Hallow’s Eve. This month will be featuring the very talented Ozark Highballers. There will be a costume contest, with prizes for scariest, funniest, best group, and best overall. Definitely come dressed up and ready to dance as a baked potato (see our sidebar for more information on that dynamite idea).

There is a suggested donation of $5, and the event is BYOB.

Friday, Oct. 30 at 9:30 p.m. @ 25 E. Center St. Fayetteville. *21+

Haunted Attractions/Houses/Corn Mazes

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and 24 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. @ Dogpatch USA, Marble Falls, Ark.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience what it would be like to check out an abandoned theme park (think Zombieland) now’s your chance. Sure, it won’t exactly be abandoned during the event with all the other families there, but you’ll get to walk around a derelict Arkansas theme park. It doesn’t take a whole lot to make the place creepy, said David Anderson, event organizer.

Admission is $10.00 per person, and $5.00 for children ages 4-13. Children 3 and under are free. You can contact the Facebook page for group pricing of 10 or more.

In the main town village of the theme park will be a scare free zone for trick or treating, various games and five mobile food vendors. On Friday, Magician Wyatt Beck will put on a show, and a psychic will be present for palm readings. For those looking to get their fright on, there will be a haunted hayride that takes the group to the abandoned chapel and the kissing stone.

Open only Halloween night at 2893 N Sunny Lane Fayetteville, Ark.

One of the few free Halloween attractions in the area, (donations go to Boxer Rescue of NWA and NWA Share) Banshee Manor seems to be the place to be for the traditional haunted house experience. There will be a kid-friendly scare-free zone from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the haunted maze starts at dark and goes to 10:00 p.m.

Every Friday and Saturday starting at 7 p.m. @ 3138 Dora Road, Van Buren, Arkansas

Down the road in Van Buren, a prison’s been overtaken by prisoners, as the story goes. Admission is $15, and the price includes the spooky trip through the prison and the Trail of Terror.

Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30-31 @ 3484 E. Joyce Blvd. Fayetteville

Ok, so if you’ve ever wanted to live out your fantasy of surviving a zombie apocolypse guns-a-blazin’ with your friends, there is literally that exact scenario at Modern Mission the next two weekends. Must be 12 or older, and it’s $25 per person. More info at modernmission.com/zombie.
