Gullet’s Gourmet is owned by Grant Gullet, an Arkansas native and former University of Arkansas student. The restaurant features a combination of Grant’s own creations and a selection of his mother’s family recipes that have been accumulated over the years. Everything is made fresh daily and nothing is purchased pre-made.
The restaurant is in a red brick building one block north of Dickson Street, east of the railroad tracks. There is a nice patio for summer dining and, as with most restaurants today, inside is a television to keep diners entertained.
Gullet’s offers both dine in and carry out. There is a deli case that displays some of the food. The deli case also includes a nice selection of cheeses that can be purchased to eat with a glass of wine or a beer or cut in larger amounts to take home.
Some of the tempting delights include Peruvian Stuffed Sweet Potatoes, a must try, Apple Cinnamon Pork ($9.50 a pound), Lime and Maple Glazed Salmon and Crab Cake with Remoulade Sauce. The Blue Cheese Potato Salad is excellent. There are also the tasty Not Yo Mama’s Green Beans, a combination of green beans, walnuts, red onion, and feta, tossed with olive oil and garlic, Asian Slaw and Baked Beans. All are sold either as a side or by the pound for takeout.
Under the frozen comfort foods section of the menu are Chicken Pot Pie, Lasagna and Turkey Tetrazzini (small $11; large $24), all ready to be taken home and heated.
The menu also includes a nice selection of sandwiches. Grant says they sell a lot of Reubens, which are made with Gullet’s own slow cooked brisket. Grant said it may be the most popular sandwich.
Gullet’s also serves a thick hand-patted Classic Burger ($6.75), Chicken Salad Sandwich, Meatloaf Sandwich, and Red Pepper Parmesan Chicken Wrap ($7.25). All sandwiches are served with potato chips and Grant’s own homemade “Fire ‘n Ice” sweet pickle chips.
Gullet’s offers a selection of soups, appetizers and desserts. Dessert selections vary from day-to-day. The day that I was there they had prepared Lemon Meringue Tarts ($4.75).
If you’re planning a tailgate party, you can order a 6, 12 or 18 person “Tail Gate Party Pack” that comes with potato salad, baked beans, buns and a choice of brisket or ribs. Grant will make sure it is ready on time for the party prior to the game. Gullet’s also offers catering for parties and events.
Gullet’s offers several specials and perks. First off—a real bonus for the family–little kids eat free! Kids can choose from a PB & J, Mac & Cheese, Grilled Cheese or Chicken Nuggets.
Other specials are the Wednesday special—a sandwich and a drink for $6 plus tax, $1-off meals with a student ID and if you have to use paid parking, the parking fee will be deducted from your bill. Happy Hour is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Other specials include appreciation days or drawings.
