You guys, all that dialoguing about how Fayetteville’s music scene just isn’t the same as it once was has finally paid off. Fayetteville is getting a new alternative music festival in an effort to remind the music industry we’re on the map.
Aptly titled the On The Map Music Festival, the fest will take place Thursday March 24 and Friday March 25 at the Fayetteville Town Center, and Saturday March 26 at select venues across Fayetteville.
“The On The Map Festival hopes to serve as a gateway experience for new students and residents and an ‘Open For Business’ sign to musicians and travelers making their way through the Spring music festival season,” according to the press release.
The Texas instrumental post-rockers This Will Destroy You will make their Arkansas debut at the festival as well as feature some great local bands such as Adam Faucett & the Tall Grass and Pallbearer. Regional favorites Water Liars will also perform as well as the up and coming Lee Baines III & the Gloryfires and Mike Adams At His Honest Weight. A second lineup announcement is planned to be announced next month in 2016.
Earlybird tickets for the festival will go on sale Dec. 22 for $35. The ticket link will be posted online at the festival’s Facebook page athttps://www.facebook.com/onthemapfest/.
Five to six bands are planned to perform per night at the Fayetteville Town Center dates (March 24, 25), and host smaller shows, artist workshops, and record signings at local businesses on Saturday, March 26. The dates at the Fayetteville Town Center will also feature local vendors, artists, and activist goups, according to the press release.
The festival is the brainchild of local music movers and shakers Roger Barrett, Samantha Sigmon and Laura Weiderhaft. Barrett and Weiderhaft are also responsible for the Top Secret Shows series in Fayetteville, which are intimate artist performances hosted in homes and locations throughout town.
The website and full lineup are expected next month in 2016. Stay tuned.
