Serbian guitarist to appear at Greenhouse Grille
Nemanja Bogunovic, classical guitarist, composer and arranger, will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6 at Greenhouse Grille in Fayetteville. He recently appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Bogunovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia. He started playing the guitar at age 7 and gave his first public performance at age 10. His playing is a combination of virtuosity, colorful expression and delicate sound. He is recognized as the “gentleman with a guitar” and a “guitarist of poetic musicality.”
Bogunovic has given recitals throughout the United States and Europe and has also appeared as a soloist with several chamber and symphonic orchestras in the U.S. and Serbia. In 2004, Princess Linda Karageorgevich of Serbia appointed him the art director of the Prince Tomislav Karageorgevitch Fund. In 2007, he performed at the Colombia University in New York as well as the United Nations. Bogunovic has played for members of the Serbian and Spanish royal families, European presidents and the former U.S. president Jimmy Carter. Hollywood stars such as Sean Penn, Kevin Costner and Barbara Streisand have attended performances by Bogunovic.
Besides playing, Nemanja Bogunovic writes his own music and makes arrangements for the guitar. He wrote his first composition at 14. His works have been performed by various artists in Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Serbia, the United States and Venezuela. He has published a “Book of Romantic Melodies” (transcribed works by Chopin, Debussy, Dvorak, Schubert and Schumann).
His two solo albums are titled “Ballad for a princess and Beloved Classics” and “Pensamientos Latinos.” Bogunovic is the founder and member of the Belgrade Guitar Quartet and Nemanja Bogunovic Trio, which resulted in his third CD “Sentimental Moments.”
In 2010 Bogunovic initiated the first post-war cultural exchange between Croatia and Serbia, “music in the service of peace,” resulting in a concert to be held in Zagreb, Croatia in the Spring of 2011.
