Dates Set For Mardi Gras Events
The 19th annual Mardi Gras of Northwest Arkansas will be Feb. 12-16 in Fayetteville.
Activities will begin Feb. 12 with the Parade of Pearls for the residents of City Hospital. The biggest event of the season is the family-friendly Fat Saturday Parade of Fools, which will be Feb. 13 in downtown Fayetteville. The parade will feature several ornately decorated floats, marching groups and the reigning king and queen. Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan will be this year’s Grand Marshal. On Mardi Gras Day, Feb. 16, the new king and queen will be revealed at a special coronation event at Jose’s on Dickson Street. Following that event the Demented Krewe of Dickson will parade Dickson Street with the new king and queen.
Mardi Gras of Northwest Arkansas is sponsored by the nonprofit group Committee for Mardi Gras.
The committee is seeking volunteers to help with the Parade of Fools and invites float entries, walking groups and musicians for the Mardi Gras Brass Band. For information go to www.fayettevillemardigras.com or contact Dixie Rhyne at 236-4794 or dementedkrewe@yahoo.com.
