Color Printing Adds Art To Hairstyles

Color Printing Adds Art To Hairstyles

I decided to write this month’s fashion column on one of my favorite inspirational artists Roxie Jane, a.k.a. “How-to-hair-girl” and her “Color Print” hair.

Roxie has been an inspiration to me for quite some time in the art/fashion world and although we have very different styles, her work always intrigues me.

Roxie is my old business partner at Mayapple Salon, she started blogging several years ago and moved back to the Seattle area where she blogs and raises her two girls Marley and Selah with her man Johnny. She says she loves to help people express themselves, explore their identity and heal though hair styling.

Roxie visits Fayetteville usually a cpl times a year and when she was here last we did a collaboration photo shoot with local artist Keely Wake/Flora and Fauuna Jewelry, my makeup and styling and Roxie’s super unique “hthg Color Prints.”

Roxie is taking a break in June from Color to set up an outdoor hair salon in the Redwood Forest at this years “Spirit Weavers Gathering” to do the Color Print clip in’s and braid and Weave hair for two weeks under the trees.

I asked Roxie some details on how she created these pieces of art and here is what she had to say;

Q: What exactly is Color Print?

JANE: Color Print is a method for applying fine art techniques to hair color, to create custom hand painted hair designs. It can be done on clip in extensions or painted right into a persons hair as a way to wear one-of-a kind art on your head.

Q: What inspired you to create “Color Print?”

JANE: As a hairstylist and artist, I am passionate about finding ways to incorporate more art into the craft of hair design and coloring.

Q: What is the outcome of “Color Print” being born?

JANE: I now teach the technique to salons around the country, and I sell the clip ins on my blog site and do custom hand painted hair designs in my clients hair, out of my home salon, which has been super fun!
