Good News For Chavez

Jonathan Chavez

Chavez
Gets Change
Of Venue

Jonathan Chavez, the Rogers High School graduate and University of Arkansas student who faces potential deportation, took a big step in righting his situation and received some good news for his efforts. Jonathan and his attorney met with Judge Kevin Mart in Miami early today (Tuesday, April 5) to ask for a change of venue in determining his immigration status.

From Jonathan’s post on the Facebook group “Praying for Jonathan Chavez:”

“Hello! Everything went great! They approved the motion for change of venue and change of representatives. So my next court date will be in the next 3 months or so (hopefully — you never know what God will do). The judge was extremely nice to me, and DHS agreed to everything. It went very smooth. Only lasted 5 min.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Jonathan earlier this year when he got off a bus to visit his mother in Florida. Both his parents are living legally in the U.S., but Jonathan was unable to get his citizenship legitimized before he turned 18, complicating an already difficult process.
