It’s no surprise that dance parties have become a hot entertainment option in NWA. They’re great feel-good fun, you get a little workout and get to bump around with friends and strangers. It’s all made possible by some fabulous DJs that are spinning and mixing these days, including a nice crop here in NWA.

If you’re one of those folks who has argued that the music can get a bit repetitious, get out Friday night for the Bombay Brouhaha at Speakeasy in Fayetteville for something different.

A production of Ants in My Trance, this Bollywood-themed dance party with Rev. Stiles covering Bhangra and Punjabi, Vivek tackling modern Bollywood and Baby Armie doing ’70s and ’80s Bollywood disco, boogie and funk will be different than anything that’s hit the shore here in F’ville. It’s an interpretation of the music made popular by “Slumdog Millionaire” — the music that swept the Grammy’s Sunday night in the categories in which it was nominated.

The show, which starts at 10 p.m. is for ages 18 and older: Free for 21 and older and $5 for under 21. Check out a sample at: http://aimt.us.

On Tour

A couple of touring acts are coming through town this week that are not to miss. We love it that several Grammy winners like Levon Helm, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Kurt Elling have all played our fair city in the past. Here’s a quick rundown of who’s in town this week.

Tonight, the North Mississippi Allstars will be at George’s and Cross Canadian Ragweed will be coming to the club on Saturday night. And although local, if you missed the new Wade Ogle and the Sea Shall Free Them band at their premiere show a couple of weeks ago, they’ll be at George’s Wednesday night.

Saturday night, famed percussionist Cyro Baptista and his band Banquet of the Spirits will do two shows at the Walton Arts Center’s smaller room, the Starr Theater, where there’s not a bad seat in the house. The music will be a mix of world music, jazz and improv. Tickets are $15.50 to $32.50.
