Fayettechill Embodies Essence Of City

First of all, thanks to whomever sent me the note about Brandon Keener. This performer in the very popular “Mass Effect” video game franchise is the University of Arkansas’ own. Born in Fort Smith, he plays Garrus Vakarian, one of the franchise’s leading characters.

Boozman Running

Congressman John Boozman has announced that he will challenge Sen. Blanche Lincoln for her senate seat. Boozman is currently in his fifth term as a Republican representative for Arkansas in District 3. He will not be alone in competition. Currently there are 11 registered contenders. The primary will be in May.

Fayettechill

A new independent business is embodying the essence of Fayetteville with a clothing company named Fayettechill. T-shirts with screen-print designs inspired by the lakes and landscape of the Ozarks is keeping creator Maurice Elliott, a 21-year-old UA student, busy. Student Discounts

The Walton Arts Center is extending discounts to college students who can get two tickets, each for $15, to the 7 p.m. show of “One Night of Queen” on Feb. 18 and half-price tickets to the 7 p.m. show of “South Pacific” on March 31 and the 7 p.m. performance of “Grease” on May 5.

Kids Who Care

It’s time for the annual Kids Who Care campaign, sponsored by Kohl’s. Now through March 15 you can go to kohlskids.com and nominate children ages 6 to 18 who contribute to the community. Young volunteers who work at soup kitchens, hold food drives, assist elderly neighbors or contribute to the community in some way will be honored. Two winners from every Kohl’s store nationwide will receive a store gift card. About 200 kids will receive $1,000 scholarships and 10 winners will receive $10,000 scholarships.

Branson Connects

The Branson, Mo., airport opened last May as the first privately created and operated commercial airport in the U.S. The airport has partnered with AirTran Airways that services more than 100 cities out of Branson. In April, Frontier Airlines will begin offering direct flights to Denver.
